Vintage Fabrics - Get Them Before They're Gone!

As the world becomes more and more "modern," people look more and more to the past. Vintage fabrics seem to be one of those things from the past that is becoming very collectible. Not only do people like the antique patterns and designs, but they also want better quality and unique fabrics.

One thing that makes this market so popular right now is that it is limited. As much as I love the digital world, I can't digitize the fabrics for you. Once a particular fabric is gone, it is gone.

Why Use Vintage Fabrics?

People use antique fabric for a variety of reasons.

Quality: Many fabrics today are printed (the pattern is on the front only), many older fabrics are woven (the pattern is front and back).

Style: Each fashion era has a certain look. Many people look for older fabrics to get that exact look or feel. There are reproduction fabrics, but some people feel they lack the authenticity of true antique fabrics. Many kinds of fabrics were made only during a certain period or for a specific purpose - so you're buying a piece of history!

Marketability: If you are using old fabrics for crafts or clothing you plan to sell, using authentic vintage fabrics increases the price and marketability of your craft.

How to Use Vintage Fabrics

You can use older fabrics the same way you use other fabrics. One of the ways people are using these fabrics right now is in crafts. Purses, quilts, and baby items are popular uses for older fabrics and patterns.

How you use your fabric will depend in part on the age of the fabric. Obviously, the older the fabric, the more fragile it is. Also, depending on how the fabric was stored, you may find uneven wear or fading.
