Vintage Hawaiian Fabric - Where Can You Find this Hot Trend?
One of the hottest trends right now in antique fabrics is vintage Hawaiian fabric, particularly from the 1950s and 1960s when Hawaii was becoming a state.
Most Hawaiian fabric was printed on barkcloth, a textured cotton fabric. Reproduction fabrics today are still printed on barkcloth, however, so that is not a good indicator of age.

When you are looking for vintage Hawaiian fabric, you need to ask the seller where they aquired the fabric. Was it sitting in granny's attic? Its probably authentic. Did they find it at a garage sale? Well, buy at your own risk.
One trick that may help you decide if the fabric is really antique or not is to ask for a picture of the back side of the fabric. Many reproductions are printed - so it is obvious it a newer fabric.
In general, vintage fabrics had the manufacturer's name printed on the selvege, another good sign of age.
So - here is a listing of current eBay listings with search criteria that helps you find vintage Hawaiian fabrics a little easier.
